Mexico enforcing mandatory NOM certification for imports

On June 3, Mexico eliminated exceptions to its Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (NOMs), or official standards. Imported electrical and electronic goods, including commercial foodservice equipment, in more than 2,000 categories must be certified as safe for end users and the environment before being imported into the country. Certification requires testing by a laboratory like Intertek or UL. Depending on the product category, NOM certificates are valid for one, two or three years.
