NAFEM opposes potential tariffs on imported steel
NAFEM and a coalition of 14 other steel-consuming associations sent a letter to the Trump administration opposing potential tariffs on imported steel. While intended to help protect 80,000 jobs in the U.S. steel industry, the coalition representing more than one million U.S. manufacturing jobs pointed out that the restrictions could make it cost prohibitive to manufacture in the U.S. In February, the Commerce Department released a report recommending a combination of tariffs and quotas to bolster both U.S. steel and aluminum production. The President is required to decide on the steel and aluminum recommendations by April 11 and April 19, respectively.
