ENERGY STAR ad-hoc project work continues

Building on the industry’s successful steam-cooker component inspection pilot program that combined ENERGY STAR energy-efficiency verification testing with quarterly product safety factory auditing, an ad-hoc group of NAFEM members is working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and certifying bodies to expand the approach to other categories. The group’s goal is to have another product category ready for pilot program verification in 2019. Current work is focused on coordinating certifying body involvement and input, including CSA Group, Intertek, NSF and UL, to clearly define the process for EPA use. The ASTM International F26 Food Service Equipment Committee worked on the steam-cooker process.
