State-by-state HFC updates
Across the U.S., numerous efforts are underway to help achieve carbon neutrality by the 2050 goal set by many countries and large corporations. NAFEM continues to closely monitor these activities.
- Massachusetts announced plans to follow similar efforts in Maine and Rhode Island to prohibit the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Draft legislation is expected this spring. A public review and comment period will follow.
- New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC) held public hearings in March to discuss its draft regulation to adopt U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) prohibitions on the use of HFCs. NAFEM participated in one of the hearings to gather information and chose not to submit written comments as a result.
- Known HFC phase-down activities by state are listed here. Our thanks to Stephen Schaefer, Group Leader, Hoshizaki America, Peachtree City, Ga., for keeping this list up to date.
