DOE energy standards update
NAFEM continues to follow up with the Department of Energy (DOE) to discuss conservation standards for commercial refrigeration equipment and walk-in coolers/freezers. In the latest communication from the agency, DOE confirms the January 2025 CRE final rule is withdrawn and there is no current rulemaking activity for the category. NAFEM also is continuing to seek clarification from DOE on its rulemaking plans for WIC/F. If DOE initiates future rulemaking activities for CRE and/or WIC/F, those rulemakings would be included in future versions of the unified agenda. NAFEM will continue to monitor this situation and address member needs.
ENERGY STAR® under scrutiny
Along with many other federal programs, ENERGY STAR is under scrutiny. NAFEM is working with like-minded stakeholders who want to see the program remain under the federal government’s purview and is trying to schedule conversations with the DOE and the House Energy & Commerce Committee to discuss.
