NAFEM and others request suspension of WA lead in cookware regs

Until a clear and reasonable path forward for compliance with Washington State’s pending lead in cookware regulations can be found, NAFEM and several other associations requested a temporary discretion or suspension of agency enforcement on the Cookware Containing Lead law. While Washington State increased the allowable lead in cookware to 90 parts per million (ppm) through Dec. 31, 2027, the allowable limit decreases to 10 ppm Jan. 1, 2028.

Proposed legislation offers alternative to OSHA proposed heat standards

NAFEM joined 25 other associations in support of the proposed Heat Workforce Standards Act of 2025 as the preferred alternative to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Indoor and Outdoor Work Setting rule. The legislation aims to prevent OSHA from undertaking its proposed rule. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Messmer (R-IN) and is cosponsored by representatives in Arizona, Florida, Geogia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
