NAFEM spearheads industry coalition advocating for “no-new-standard” to DOE proposed CRE regulations

In a strong show of solidarity, several industry organizations collectively communicated their opposition to the DOE’s proposed energy-conservation standards for commercial refrigeration equipment (CRE) in a letter to House and Senate leadership.

The letter – endorsed by CFESA, FEDA, FCSI, MAFSI, NAMA and NAFEM – points out the burdensome nature of the proposed standards and encourages the elected officials to intervene with DOE. “Our industry supports, and will continue to support, energy-efficiency regulations that are tethered to technological and economic reality. DOE’s proposed standards are neither,” the letter said.

NAFEM also is asking members to reach out to their elected officials to request that DOE issue a “no-new standard” via NAFEM’s new Advocacy Action Center. These efforts, which launched in March, support comments NAFEM submitted to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in Dec. 2023.

NAFEM continues pursuing numerous paths to advocate for a “no new standard” to DOE’s proposal. If approved as currently drafted, the proposed standards would take effect late 2027.
