Amplifying Members’ Voices

NAFEM regularly works with other organizations to advance the industry’s perspective with elected and appointed officials. Recently, NAFEM:

  • Joined numerous associations in opposing the REPAIR Act included in the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill. In a letter to the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the organizations noted that the Act would require manufacturers to provide broad access to sensitive telematics data beyond what is necessary for repair work. The groups also emphasized that proposals should not require disclosure of proprietary systems and data that are not necessary to solve a repair problem.
  • Also joined other associations opposing an amendment to the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would strip intellectual property (IP) protections from government contractors and grant the Department of War government purpose rights (GPR) over any technical data, computer software, or computer software documentation delivered to the Department under a contract.
