Mexico requests more time to meet USMCA auto requirements
Citing the complexity of meeting new United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA) requirements that cars manufactured in Mexico include 75 percent North American content, Mexico has asked the U.S. and Canada for extra time to implement the planned July 1 implementation date. The requirement is to be phased in over three to four years. According to its Deputy Economy Minister Luz Maria de la Mora, Mexico is seeking a revised transition period specifically for the automotive sector. Canada and Mexico have completed their internal legal processes for the USMCA to go into effort. The United States has yet to do so.
