March at-a-glance…regulations
Maine considers regulating workplace temperatures
Last month, NAFEM received word from Hospitality Maine that the state was considering a bill to regulate indoor workplace temperatures, similar to a 2019 California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OHSA) proposal. Commercial kitchens are low-hanging fruit for regulations of this nature, so NAFEM shared its background on the topic with Hospitality Maine in an effort to encourage the agency to not proceed with the regulation.
“We will continue to closely monitor this discussion in Maine. It is another example of how issues tend to migrate from one state to another,” said Charlie Souhrada, CFSP, NAFEM’s vice president, regulatory & technical affairs.
