New licensing requirements in place for aluminum importers

Companies importing certain aluminum products need licenses to do so after June 28 under the Department of Commerce’s (DOC) new Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIM) system. The AIM system was created to provide timely and accurate data on imports of certain aluminum products entering the U.S. It helps identify import surges of specific aluminum products that can aid in the detection of trans shipment, or the in transit movement of cargo from one vessel to another. Quebec announces new recycling regulations effective Dec. 4

Canada’s Quebec province announced new mandatory recycling regulations for home and commercial appliances. Effective Dec. 4, manufacturers of appliances that weigh under 300 kg/661 lbs. must have a recovery and reclamation program that complies with the new regulations. Refrigerators and freezers with a volume less than 2.5 feet³ are exempt. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) is working with recycling partners and others in the province to secure additional clarification and to make sure the recycling infrastructure exists to manage these large appliances.
