Fix to USMCA drafting error requested by NAFEM and others
In drafting the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA), an error was made in the language allowing companies to make a post-importation claim for refunds from merchandise processing fees. If not corrected, the language will cost companies millions of dollars on U.S. imports. NAFEM joined more than 100 other associations in requesting that Congress fix the incorrect language. The letter to Congress states: “The USMCA will help manufacturers and their businesses grow in the U.S., compete globally and support millions of well-paying jobs … A timely fix to the merchandise processing fee drafting error is critical to enabling this success.”
